Club sandwiches are the BEST! I will almost always order one if it's on the menu, except that recently every place wants to put avocado on it, but avocado is not part of a club sandwich (or a BLT!) which is a hill I will die on. Avocado is not an acceptable texture in my world.
I recommend The Great British Baking Show which I realize I'm the last person in the world to watch, but I finally did and it's just so soothing. All of the contestants are so sweet and supportive of each other. Even the judges seem to really try to be as kind as possible.
Also, The Thursday Murder Club was a really delightful book. I'm on the waitlist for the next one, but it's very long. Upside to ADHD is that I'll completely forget about it by the time it comes it, so it'll be an excellent surprise.
I also just finished listening to The Exvangelicals, which I really enjoyed. I appreciated your contributions!
Ha ha I have a copy of the Exvangelicals book but I misplaced it!!!! I really do want to read it :) I also truly truly love GBBO and find it so calming to my nervous system.
Underwear that makes you feel good in your body is so important. I had an epiphany about bras 4 years ago - I suddenly realized that the reason I couldn't find a well-fitting bra was because I hate having breasts and simply putting on a bra sent me to sensory overload. Since I am not rich and cannot take 6 months off work for top surgery - sports bras for the.... compromise. Also, Woxer boxer briefs are the gender affirming undies I didn't know I needed.
My current reading recommendation is to have more than one book going at once. I never saw this coming, but I've found a balance between having a heavy book going in one place with light and fluffy books going in others. I'm currently reading Lessons from the Covid War at work. It stays in my gear bag and only comes out between calls. My current audiobook and at home books are both fluffy, queer romances. If my audiobook becomes heavy, I'll switch my work book to something fluffy. I'm finding that this keeps me from getting angsty in my body.
I used to do 2-3 sports bras at once but now I hate the way they make me feel! I've tried a few binders that are OK. It's just nice to know there are options out there in the world!
I've researched so many binders, but my brain can't comprehend how they would not be painful. Also, they seem like a super uncomfortable idea for Florida. It's possible that I'm just afraid of them 😬😬
I love all of this. My favorite things right now are...
-An adorable plush Baphomet from Squishable (so cute, so transgressive/liberative, so fuzzy/soft!)
-The Cozy Witch tarot deck
-Aldi dino nuggets
-Cookie cake
-Watching iZombie with my roommate
-Pole dancing in heels
-For summer, I have multiple copies of the same black dress that is comfortable and has pockets and allows me to show off my unhinged earring collection
Last week I watched the Netflix anime Delicious in Dungeon with my roommate and we were delighted. It’s about an adventuring party that, after nearly having a party wipe, decides to go straight back into the dungeon to rescue their healer who sacrificed herself to get them out. In order to do so they forgo buying supplies and instead learn to understand the ecology of the dungeon and how to eat the things that live and grow there. It’s very funny and charming with a healthy dose of sapphic pining.
That dance video is brilliant and feels like it's genetically related somehow to that Ok Go treadmill video? Here if you need to refresh your memory: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTAAsCNK7RA
I read The Secret Lives of Country Gentlemen by KJ Charles and promptly ordered the second one (awaiting delivery). I'm not a regular romance reader, but I do go through periods where it's all my brain wants. I've been pretty stressed recently, so here we are.
All episodes of the original Muppet Show are available on Disney+. Are the Muppets America's greatest contribution to world culture? I think it's possible.
I read this list early in the morning before falling back asleep for a few hours. As a result, I had my very own Harry Potter fan fic dream. I’m on Lexapro so my dreams are very intense. So much fun!! Thanks, D.L.! :)
I recently discovered wearable, chargeable heating pads (mine even has a massage function!!) and it was life-changing.
My favorite food lately is something I used to make a lot and have come back to being obsessed with - fried tacos. They’re so amazing I have to stop myself from eating the whole batch.
Also fun for me lately has been yard work, prepping for my herb & flower spiral! It’s been a lot of work and I’m still far from finished but it feels SO good to do things with my hands that I’ll be able to appreciate for years to come.
That was pretty funny! I’ve never watched Conan, but I had some time this morning over breakfast. I had to pour myself a second cup of coffee to keep watching. I had to see how it ended!
What a perfect list!!!! Just finished season 1 of Conan O’Brien Must Go last night and agree that his humor is on a level of brilliance I have overlooked till now. Watching that Hot Ones asap!
Thank you for these! I’m looking forward to watching the videos later! Also I am sure you’re aware, but also highly recommend the A Bit Fruity podcast ep from a couple weeks ago. It’s about Drake and the Quiet on Set doc and the cycle of abuse and was equally enlightening and horrifying to me.
So I just watched LOL: Last One Laughing South Africa with Trevor Noah as host. The premise is they pack a “house” with comedians and for 6 hours they try to make each other laugh, while not smiling or laughing themselves. First infraction (a smile/laugh) is a yellow card. The second is a red card and you’re out.
I came away from that season with the thought of needing to be silly more. I find myself being silly and loving it but then I get dragged down by all the terrible and scary things happening in the world and just the everyday responsibilities. The other night I used a silly voice for a little while and it shocked my family and made them all laugh.
Also just realized there is a world of LOL shows from many different countries. Last night I started the Canada season and Mae Martin is on it!
I love this whole list! I am 100% a fan of the "find the best ____ in town" hobby. It is so fun, and if you talk about doing it enough sometimes people ask you to do it for them! We legit had friends ask us to test our dessert bakeries for their wedding for them?! It was magical.
I love the fanfiction rec! I'm not familiar with this one, but it sounds great! I have some of my favorites downloaded as comfort for bad days, and it's so good! If anyone really loved the Protector of the Small series by Tamora Pierce, let me know, I have a fic recommendation for you!
I've also really loved rereading all my picture books. The art is so fantastic, and they are familiar friends at this point. I really love one called Pockets by Jennifer Armstrong. It was illustrated by Mary Grand Pré who did the original Harry Potter covers, and it is so fun to see her distinctive style show a different story.
I am really enjoying scrambled eggs with toast for lunch. I'll add some garlic chives from my garden for extra fun in the eggs.
Do you know if they have plus sizes? Last time I checked they didn't, but they look Soo comfy. I've been getting boxer briefs from Tomboy X (yay queer owned!!) and it's been honestly magical.
(For those unfamiliar, Woxer is also queer owned and run, with Pride stuff throughout the year, so they are similar to Tomboy X with heavily queer branded stuff and a big queer fandom but they aren't exclusively a queer thing and it's totally cool to wear them no matter your orientation or gender. )
Yes! And if you don't like the designs now, wait a few weeks and sign up for the email list, and they will announce new ones soon. There's a new drop every month at the least and usually more.
This list is a revelation. I saw you post that dance video on your instagram and I've watched 3x and sent to like 8 friends. I "splurged" on a bluetooth speaker and I'm enjoying playing music in the kitchen while cooking or cleaning and doing fancy-weird-dancey moves while getting work done. The kids or my spouse often join in and we mimic each other's moves and it is so so good for all of us to get out of our heads and let our bodies be silly and wiggly together (or alone, I don't need an audience for my super cool moves).
Club sandwiches are the BEST! I will almost always order one if it's on the menu, except that recently every place wants to put avocado on it, but avocado is not part of a club sandwich (or a BLT!) which is a hill I will die on. Avocado is not an acceptable texture in my world.

Me every time D. L.'s name came up in the book: "I KNOW THEM!!" Hahahaha.
Same!

Wow that anime sounds amazing, I gotta tell my teenager about it.

please link me to the heating pads! I hate how plugged-in ones get lukewarm after like 15 min :(
That was pretty funny! I’ve never watched Conan, but I had some time this morning over breakfast. I had to pour myself a second cup of coffee to keep watching. I had to see how it ended!
The ending is so unhinged I just love it.

Wait, this CDK + Gotye is EVERYTHING. I cannot stop.
it just itches a part of my brain in the best way
I very much enjoyed watching the videos!
I have been sick the past few days so I am excited to check out your recommendations! that dance video was so great! love this post!

I hadn't heard of this podcast, I will definitely listen!
It’s by Matt Bernstein, whose stuff you share a lot! He’s so great!

On the underwear thing: I am a Woxer diehard stan and I won't wear anything else now haha
Do you know if they have plus sizes? Last time I checked they didn't, but they look Soo comfy. I've been getting boxer briefs from Tomboy X (yay queer owned!!) and it's been honestly magical.
Yes, up to 4XL now. Also good!

Amazing!!! This is wonderful news
I've gotten so many Instagram ads for them and been intrigued, so it's good to hear that a real person likes them! Maybe I'll actually order.
