A while back, the phrase “You’ve got to go through the Tower to get to the Star” popped into my head, and I’ve been low-key returning to that thought from time to time ever since.
(No idea if I came up with it, or am dimly remembering something I read.)
You asked something like what I’m doing these days to make it through. I’m listening to songs that have good memories attached to them. I’m eating healthy foods and trying to eat without watching shows so I can be more mindful of what I’m eating. I’m cleaning out the garage and donating a lot of things I no longer need. Having a goal has been good. I brought food to the food bank. I have been going to Democrat meetings and socials, which is very new for me. I’m trying to be a positive part of my community. I reconnected with a friend from elementary school over politics. We text nearly every day, just little things to lift each other up. I’m trying not to think about my unsafe family members and that loss —trying to be aware of when I’m doing it and thinking about something else. I’ve already put enough energy in all that.
I’ve been feeling this…hoping?? …believing this too. The Tower is a necessary part of the future rebuilding, painful as it is, and at this moment (buoyed by a good dose of perhaps new age-y spirituality that includes tarot cards?) I believe we’re on the trajectory to something new.
yeah, and (trigger warning for evangelical bullshit) the inevitable "do you believe in protecting children from predators?" "Of course I do, it's YOU PEOPLE who want to turn kids trans!" "That's ... not accurate or relevant in any way. I meant with the Epstein files. How can you still support Trump?" "Oh hogwash, that's all just the deranged leftists making up stuff to tear him down since they are losers. Attacks from The Enemy to bring a good man down and to cover up the horrors of *their* sex crimes against children like allowing sex education in our schools! These Good Christian Men didn't do any of those things. They've been framed by the radical communist demoncrats! Sure, everyone makes mistakes, but Trump and co have that much more of a powerful testimony for how his life has been changed for such a time as this!" blah blah blah
