Yes!! This album is the healing person's manifesto!

I feel like I've grown with JOSEPH. When I was all resistency they were burning the "white flag", when I was wondering where all the adultyer adults were, it was "good luck kid" and now that I am zoning in and calming things down it's the "nervous system". Love those gals.

Yessss they are very you-coded lol Oregonian sisters who grew up in evangelical culture but now say it's too complicated to identify with one label. I thought one of them was queer but that may just be because I associate them with boygenius musically lol

Yes I saw them live here when the album first came out! Oregon loves them :)

Currently very obsessed with Bridgerton! Love that a mid sized woman is getting her flowers and is being shown as extremely desirable. Not a fan of the fatphobia that's coming out of the woodwork from some of the fans, but unfortunately that was probably to be expected. Polin is my favorite couple by far, and IMO they're the healthiest Bridgerton couple (or will be once the LW plotline is resolved). I really hope there's resolution to the Penelope/Eloise storyline. I would love to see Penelope (or Benedict/Colin) really drive home the class/social disparity that resulted in the creation of LW. Eloise's character arc still has a ways to go - this season has shown just how little she listens to other people and just wants someone to talk at.

Yes! Eloise is really showing her privilege in this season . . . I really identify with parts of her (seeing the whole patriarchal system as rubbish, but not really understanding how class impacts everything, including her). I am so so so hoping they will bring a class analysis into this but I don't think that is gonna happen. Somebody needs to write that fanfic!!!!

What are your thoughts on the autistic-coded couple in Bridgerton?? At least I saw them as autistic coded? But maybe you have thoughts on that too!

Do you mean Francesca and John? Francesca does read as autistic to me for sure! I also think Eloise does as well (both of them in very different ways).

Joseph has talked some in interviews about growing up religious, and Meegan has always given off big worship leader energy IMO. Their Tiny Desk Concert is an oldie but a goodie.

Also came here to say this! They also talked about one of them being in a bad relationship when I saw them last year at my local tiny music venue. It was so good to see them live down the road from where I live! 😍

I in general really love Bridgerton (the soundtrack is on no stop for me) but the double standards in their sexual ethics annoy me to no end. The fact that the men all have this wink wink agreement that they can sleep with whomever they want and the women are left knowing basically nothing about their bodies is the worst (Daphne’s plot in season one, the Featherington sisters this season, etc). SPOILER ALERRT I know Eloise gets to upend this standard a bit, but it just makes me sad and mad.

Yes it is unfortunately very relatable to me growing up in purity culture . . . I do love when romance books and media get to upend this a bit and show women experiencing pleasure. I have seen people mention how Bridgerton the show made race an almost non-issue but kept the patriarchy. Which is just interesting to think about!

That’s a perfect way of summing it up - keeping the patriarchy!

Also love Bridgerton! About to finish She-Ra (excellent) and just finished Priya Parker's Art of Gathering, which was incredible.

I love Jenny Nicholson! Despite not wanting to actively go to a theme park, theme parks/themed stuff is one of my special interests and I'm all up in that media (Podcast the Ride, Paging Mr. Morrow, Defunctland, etc)

I always loved Joan of Arc. As a francophone, I grew up hearing her being revered as the first incarnation of the People self-conscious of their existence as a nation. She embodied the resistance to English hegemony, something I felt in my bones as a kid forced to attend an American International School where, over the course of my schooling, I would slowly lose my French-speaking inner voice. I was teased a lot for fiercely protesting “I was from Quebec,” instead of saying I was from Canada. But I think I wanted to hold on to the cultural tapestry that gave me a story by which to navigate this confusing world. Joan of Arc was a figure I could tap into when I wanted to be weird, oppositional, and authentically myself.

While a bit late to the Pink Pony Club, I’m currently obsessed with Chappell Roan (as a lot of people are right now). I love how her music is full of whimsy and fun. It’s been a while since I found an artist I enjoy spinning around to like a top. But The Beaches or 76th Street delight me almost as much.

And yes…the days I watch season 3 of Bridgerton I can’t think about anything else but the show. Her and Colin’s love story aside, I think Penelope’s transformation into a self-confident woman (did anyone else pick up on how deeper her voice is this season?) is captivating in and of itself.

I saw an interview where Nicola Coughlan talked about her intentionality behind picking a deeper voice for Penelope for season 3 as part of her character development. And went through her 3 Penelope voices for each of the 3 seasons…amazing! 😍

Oh, I was so sad to read your sentence about losing your French-speaking inner voice. Wow. Oh Joan, you have touched so many people with your life.

And yes, I noticed that about Penelope's voice too! In the book, she gets more confident at showing her true (and opinionated) self after hanging out a bunch with lady Danbury. I sort of wish that had happened in the show as well!

My favorite musician, Kate Bush, has an incredible song about Joan of Arc that you may like, D.L.! It's called "Joanni" and it's on her album Aerial (which is also amazing btw).

Bridgerton is getting me through this week. I appreciated that Penelope grew enough to give herself a taste of her own medicine as a way of acknowledging the harm she caused Eloise in the last season. I wish they would do the same for how she wrote about Marina.

I read the book and always get so mad about the scene where Colin finds out she's LW and basically forgets to use his big boy words. He's the least toxic of the Brigderton boys, so I hated that scene and a lot of his subsequent behavior, which kind of ruined him in my eyes. It felt like sloppy writing on the author's part. Like, you couldn't think of another way to add drama? And I don't think it ever gets resolved or brought up, which I haaaate with a passion.

The way tv Colin delivered the line "are you going to marry me or not" felt like a breath of fresh air. The actors made it so playful and sweet, rather than book Colin, who was a presumptuous twerp about it.

I was like, no way am I going to watch this 4.5 hour video, I’ll just watch a few minutes, and now I’m half through and already telling others to watch 😆

I enjoy, if that’s the right word, how bent out of shape Colin gets about what Penelope/Lady Whistledown wrote about him, because it just reinforces that she was right.

SPOILER My one quibble is that the show very quickly sets up a thread where Anthony disapproves of his mother’s relationship with Lord Anderson, which could have led to some excellent drama when his mother and his wife explain to him that it’s none of his business, but then they just whisk him off the stage for the rest of the series. (I have no idea if any of that is in the books.)

Transition!! Yes I am feeling that in my stomach. Thank you for putting words to it. And Bridgerton!!! I’ve read the books and I’m so excited to watch this afternoon.
