Such an interesting post! I totally relate! Excited to click on all the links. :)
I feel so seen when I read this Substack. I have always felt like I was not normal and it is so sad to me to finally be realizing so many things in my 40's now. I really needed all this info years ago.
My absolute favorite resource has been Kieran Rose’s Inside of Autism course and community. It has been incredible for me to learn about monotropism, masking, and sensory system differences with people who share their experiences of being autistic.
Awesome! I have Kieran’s group open in a tab to look at as soon as I have time and I’m excited to have a book to read of theirs too. Thank you for the recommendations!
Yay, I've been looking forward to reading your post! ALSO semi-related but I was hoping to find a way to tell you that I started Decolonizing Therapy (got it in my Libby app) and whew! I feel like it's gonna be a powerful doozy of a book -- but also empowering -- great recommendation!
I'll now be spending more time with self-assessments (a hobby I feel compelled to return to over and over again), thanks to all your links ;) Also, I love the connection between masking in high-control religious environments and neurodivergent/expansive masking!!
Yay! I’ve been thinking about you! We need to make a plan to do our Deconstruct with Disney collab! Or just connect! Send me a message when you have time!
As a fellow former Christian and therapist who is currently exploring her own neuroexpansiveness, this was such a beautiful addition to my exploration of myself. I really appreciated your thoughts on empathic autism!
I can't find the comment about HSP being a problematic term because of Aron's stance, and the linked article. Does anyone remember that or have the link? I thought I had it easily referenceable, but apparently not. It has an image with birds on the top of the article.
@D.L. Mayfield fans and readers, I created a new substack channel Non-conforming, Neuro-expansive, and just a bit Magical to continue exploring these topics. Here’s the first post: The neurodivergent princess and the pea. Would love to hear your thoughts and your own explorations...

Me too! So thankful for DL and this Substack.

Can’t wait to check it out!
Kieran also co-authored a book, Autistic Masking: Understanding Identity Management and the Role of Stigma. It’s densely packed with information.

Such a great post! This fellow neuroexpansive, exvangelical resonates with all of this.
Thank you, Stephanie! I’m looking forward to reading your substack writings too! Just followed today.

Thank you, Linette!
